Synopsis

The present study states the problem of the nature, the means and the implications of the political socialization at school in Cameroon. lt starts with the following general hypothesis. The cameroonian school proceeds by the "violence symbolique" (symbolic violence) at the political socialization of young people. This inculcation of the political culture reflects the current policy of education and depends on the type of teaching at which the subjects are connected and their social status by origin.
Based on the sociological theories which are the conflictualist and the functionnalist ones but also on the political science and social psychology approaches, the study shows that the sytem of education inculcates to young people conformist attitudes which exalt the social conservation nothwithstanding the type of teaching and the social status by origin of students. The acquisition by students of dominant values, norms and attitudes has reached on appreciable level which however needs to be improved .
